My Journey as an Herbalist

My path into herbalism began not in a classroom, but in a moment of desperation. I was struggling through a severe asthma and coughing flare that persisted for over a month. No medication seemed to bring relief—until one day, I found myself holding a simple cup of tea. That warm infusion, drawn from the plants, eased what nothing else could. It was more than just comfort; it was a turning point. I realized there was a deeper wisdom in plants that I needed to understand.

What started as a personal search quickly grew into a shared exploration. I signed up for an introduction to herbalism course with my daughter as part of her homeschooling. Sitting together, learning about the healing power of plants, I felt something awaken. Herbalism wasn’t just knowledge—it was connection: to my body, to my lineage, and to the living world around me. Working with plants was like recovering a memory, childhood memory, ancestral memory, past lives memory…

From there, I went all in. I dove deeper into study, taking courses with Commonwealth Herbalism and Evolutionary Herbalism, expanding my foundation with Tea Turn-Ups with Sade Musa, and ultimately completing a full apprenticeship with Sacred Vibes Apothecary. Each step brought me closer to the realization that herbalism is not only about remedies—it’s about relationship, spirit, and remembering ways of knowing that our ancestors carried.

That calling blossomed into creation. I launched Sassy Roots, my herbal product line, as a way to share what I was learning and to bring healing into people’s everyday lives. From there, the vision expanded again into The Rooted Wisdom, my school of herbalism. Rooted Wisdom is the culmination of my path so far: a space for teaching, community, and reclaiming ancestral herbal knowledge in ways that are practical, spiritual, and transformative.

This journey is still unfolding, but one thing is clear: the plants have led me here, and they continue to guide the work I do each day.
